Hacienda Pinilla ranks among the Top 3 Golf Courses in Costa Rica on multiple lists online, in magazines and among our golfing friends. Luckily, it’s the closest golf course to Las Palmitas. Just 30 min (15kM) North between Tamarindo and the Villa lies the Mike Young designed course which weaves gracefully through the natural tropical forest toward the Pacific Ocean.

The road to Pinilla is mostly along our favorite dirt road that surfers use to connect Playa Negra, Avellanas and Tamarindo. There are short sections of paved road, but there are also a few big potholes along the way. This is a great time to practice Pura Vida and enjoy the ride while saving your rental car’s suspension.

After playing the links our friends enjoy dining and apres golf drinks at the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club or at the JW Marriott Resort next door.

Farther North along the Pacific Coast is Reserva Conchal. It’s one hour from Las Palmitas. This can be a great day trip paired with a visit to nearby Flamingo, Brasalito and Portrero. While your kids and non-golfing travelers can enjoy the best snorkeling and a unique beach comprised of millions of sea shells. You can avoid the beach hawkers and souvenir kiosks by teeing off at this luxury golf course.

But with luxury comes a dress code:

The Papagayo Peninsula is stunning and it’s our favorite area for a Costa Rican luxury “stay-cation”. Perched among the cliffs overlooking the Pacific dotted with tropical islands and rock formations.
